How It Works
From first conversation to final installation, here's exactly what working with Stonetree Signs looks like.
Free Consultation
We start with a conversation to determine your needs.
Call us, fill out a contact form, or stop by. We want to understand your business, your location, your goals, and your timeline before we talk about any specific product. A lot of clients come in knowing they need "a sign" but not much else. That's completely normal, and we're good at asking the right questions to point you in the right direction.
- No commitment required
- Works for in-person, phone, or email
- We'll ask about your location, zoning, and landlord situation
- Once we know your needs, we can provide tailored recommendations.
Site Survey & Measurements
When the project calls for it, we come to you so the design is built around reality.
Not every project needs a site visit — for vehicle wraps, banners, and smaller items, photos and measurements you provide are usually enough. For building signage, we'll typically schedule a visit to take measurements, photograph the location, check mounting surfaces, and note any permit or landlord requirements. This is how we catch problems before production instead of after. Extensive site work or planning on larger and more complex projects may carry a cost — if it does, we'll tell you up front, before anything billable happens.
- We identify electrical access for illuminated signs
- We note setback requirements and zoning restrictions
- We photograph the building for design reference
- For vehicle wraps: photos of all four sides + vehicle specs
Estimate, Deposit & Design
You see it before we build it.
After the consultation and site visit, we provide a detailed estimate with our initial recommendations at no cost. When you're ready to move forward, a 50% deposit kicks off design: our team creates your artwork based on your site measurements, your brand, and your preferences, presented as a digital rendering, often in a photo composite showing how it will look on your actual building or vehicle. You can request changes until it's exactly right. Nothing goes into production without your sign-off.
- Free estimate and recommendations before any commitment
- Design artwork begins once your deposit is in
- Rendered on your actual building or vehicle photo when possible
- We flag any permit or zoning issues at this stage
Fabrication
We ensure your sign is built to the highest standards.
Once you approve the final design, we move into production. Much of our fabrication happens in-house in Asheboro: routed signs, dimensional letters, vehicle wraps, banners, and printed materials. For specialized components (like custom LED modules or cast bronze) or certain projects, we use trusted vendors we've worked with for years.
- Signed design approval starts production
- Typical fabrication: 1–3 weeks depending on complexity
- We handle permit applications during this phase when needed
- We provide regular updates on the progress of your project
Installation
Professional installation. We don't hand you a box and wish you luck.
Our installation crew handles everything from mounting channel letters on a building face to wrapping a vehicle to installing a freestanding monument sign. We schedule around your business hours when we can, and we leave the site clean. After installation, we do a final walkthrough to make sure everything is right before we close out the job.
- Balance due at installation
- We coordinate with electricians for illuminated signs when needed
- We pull and handle all sign permits

Common Questions About the Process
How long does a sign project take from start to finish?
Most projects take 2–6 weeks from initial consultation to installation. Simple vinyl or banner projects can move faster. Permitted monument signs or complex channel letter sets take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline during the consultation.
Do I need to have a logo or design ready?
No. Many clients come to us with nothing but a business name. Our design team starts from scratch regularly. If you have existing brand files, bring them, but it's not required.
What if I'm renting and need landlord approval?
Very common. We can prepare a rendering specifically for your landlord to review and approve. We know what landlords and property managers typically want to see, and we can help you make that process smooth.
Do you handle permits?
Yes. We handle the permit application process and coordinate with your local municipality. Permit timelines vary by city; some take a week, others take 4–6 weeks. We factor this into your project schedule.
What's the 50% deposit for?
It kicks off your project. Design artwork begins once the deposit is in, and nothing is cut or printed until you've signed off on the final design. The balance is due at installation.
What if my company cannot pay a 50% deposit because of our corporation's purchase order or vendor payment system?
We understand that some corporations, government entities, and larger organizations have established purchasing procedures that may not allow for a standard 50% deposit. Stonetree Signs is willing to be flexible and work with vendor payment systems where possible, just let us know your specific needs, and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.
